Call for Gravatt Tunes

Camp Gravatt. If you've stumbled upon this, chances are you've spent at least some time there in your life.

Each summer, the staff would compile a mix-tape/cd (in later years) of the music of the summer. (I don't know when this began, but I do remember as a child listening to my sister's 1989 Gravatt Tunes, so at least since then).

The purpose of this blog is to determine the track listings of each summer's Gravatt Tunes. Once determined, I'll put together the the music as an MP3 playlist and distribute it to those who would like it.

The focus, for me personally, is for Gravatt Tunes 1990 - 2000. However, if you one from an alternate era, please feel free to share.

I'll be creating posts for each year. Even if you don't have your old tape, feel free to comment with songs you seem to recall being popular that summer (say, maybe because of a certain talent show skit or something similar). Worst case we can create an "almost" copy.

I found 1995 in a box of old tapes, so we've got that list for sure. I'll be working on compiling that playlist and hopefully it will be up by next week.

Being that I'm a current staff member I think it would be really cool to hear a lot of the stories and memories some of you guys have from working back in the 90's or whenever. Maybe posting the stories behind some of the songs when you put them up or even adding a new thread for just old stories. Help us keep the traditions going and pass the torches on. Shalom.

Well...judging by the 2008 list here I know that I am old and times have changed...but I echo Adrock and say keep traditions alive...it's on you current staff! And to my older friends...that is why we have to stay in touch with camp and visit them during the summer. I am really mad that I did not get down there this summer at all--first time I have not been there at least once during the summer since 1983!!!! I will go next year. By the way this is SwampFox (aka MC Swain). Daniel--suggest you put Marty on this for early stuff; she is a sap and probably has everything (I mean that in a good way!) Also, Reddic and the Melnyk's might be good reference.

OK, I believe I have exhausted my mix tapes from Gravatt now and have everything posted from 1990-1994 including Polar Bear mixes. I must say that this was fun, and now I plan to rock out to some old school cassettes... it's been a while since I listened to these, but typing the playlists made me excited! I'll go back now and put a few notes in for Jake about some of the songs.
This summer I kind of freaked out when I realized that many cureent staffers may not have even been alive (!) when we worked at camp!!!

I was born in '89 and I'm middle of the pack age wise for staff. Maybe even one of the oldest for this coming summer. Hope that makes you guys feel better.

This is a great idea. Thank you so much for organizing it, Daniel! I will have to dig up my old tapes and CDs. The last tape I listened to was from the 90's when the staff sang the songs from campfire, eucharist, shalom circle, etc. It is awesome :) Miss y'all...I will be back in touch!
